At 49 years old, legendary professional bull rider Ednei Caminhas is prepared to defy expectations and make a spectacular comeback.

The 2002 world champion has became an assistant coach for the Professional Bull Riders expansion squad, the New York Mavericks.

And even though Caminhas recently hung up his chaps and gloves, he says he’s ready to suit up for the Mavericks when needed. The Brazilian retired from the sport four years prior, but he recently made a successful comeback in 2022 at the age of 47.

Caminhas will be waiting in the wings for one last ride in the sport he loves, even though his main emphasis is on getting the Mavericks ready for their 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series debut. “I will mount a bull if that is what they desire. Caminhas tells The U.S. Sun, “I’m waiting.

In response to the question of whether he could still ride at fifty, Caminhas said, “Probably… if my wife doesn’t kill me!” Caminhas is thrilled to be entering the coaching field.

“This is really new to me, and it presents a significant professional challenge.

When asked if he could still ride when he’s 50, Caminhas replied, “Probably… if my wife doesn’t kill me!”

Caminhas is excited by his move into coaching.

“I rode bulls for 30 years and now being a coach is real new for me.”

Former Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry is the head of Avenue Sports Fund, the organization that manages the Mavericks.

Additionally, the club is getting ready for its first homestand, which takes place August 9–10 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. In principle, Chris Pantani, general manager of the Mavericks, is amenable to Caminhas making a return.

There are fewer than 500 lifetime rides on Ednei. That’s a significant turning point for the PBR, according to Pantani.

He’s a former world champion…and still competing at 49.

“Not sure what that brings in, it does give us options and flexibilities.”

But Pantani’s tentative approval comes with many caveats.

“The team we have is a strong team right now,” he says.

In essence, your starting squad consists of seven protected riders, and we also have a reserve team built in. So, before we make a choice like that, we must consider our athletes.

“It’s good to have in the back of your mind knowing you have a coach ready to put a glove on and some chaps on if we need him.” But Kody Lostroh, the head coach of the Mavericks, has dismissed the notion.

It won’t happen,” he says.

“Ednei is an awesome guy and a great rider and he’s been around a long time.

If they want me to get on a bull I will. I’m waiting

“But he is officially officially done in his own words.

“It’s a pretty young team for the most part as far as the age of the riders and they still have that youthful passion about what they are doing and that excitement about something new.”

Professional Bull Riding is not new to New York City.

For a number of years, Madison Square Garden has hosted events organized by the sports league. But there are advantages and disadvantages to having a team in the congested and cutthroat sports market of New York City.

For a while now, one of the fastest-growing sports in the US has been professional bull riding. It is enormous to introduce the team concept to the world’s largest sports market.

The fact that it is new and that some New Yorkers might not even be aware of it presents an obvious issue. “Once they get involved, they are typically hooked.”
