The NFL announced the sanctions for Week 3 actions, issuing a significant fine to a key player from Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have started the 2024 NFL season with an impressive 3-0 record, placing them among the top teams. However, despite the positive momentum, one of Mike Tomlin’s players was fined for a controversial incident.
This week, the NFL revealed its penalties for Week 3, highlighting a key Steelers player for a questionable play during their 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. These penalties are related to the safety and well-being of players and can be appealed.
The Steelers player fined by the NFL is tight end Darnell Washington, who had already informed the media that he plans to contest the league’s decision. The fine, $6,760, is not as controversial as the flagged play itself. Washington was penalized for a crackback block, which is difficult to identify clearly.
The incident occurred early in the third quarter when Washington blocked a Chargers defender. Washington’s appeal may hold weight since the two players were directly lined up against each other in motion. Moreover, no flag was thrown during the play.

More fines from the Steelers vs. Chargers game
In addition to Washington, two other players were fined in the Week 3 game between the Steelers and Chargers. Chargers players Khalil Mack and Derwin James were also penalized by the league.
