Robert Griffin III’s life has revolved around football, so he understands that Sam Darnold will be competing in his first Super Bowl. However, he appeared unaware that Jared Goff had previously played in a Super Bowl.

In a Sunday tweet on X, Griffin said that Drake Maye had reached the Super Bowl before a few other franchise quarterbacks, including Jared Goff. Goff had previously participated in a Super Bowl. The community notes amended Griffin’s statement.

“Drake Maye made it to a Super Bowl before Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield and Trevor Lawrence,” Griffin posted.

Later that day, he apologized to Goff.

“Jared Goff did play in a Super Bowl,” Griffin said. “That’s my bad.”

Griffin added a GIF of Zach Galifianakis with the caption. I’m sorry I screwed up, men.

Goff played in Super Bowl LIII at the conclusion of the 2018 season, a defensive battle that Tom Brady’s Patriots won 13-3. Many feel that the game established the groundwork for the thinking that led Les Snead and Sean McVay to trade him in favor of Matthew Stafford.

Robert Griffin III continued to post on social media after throwing an interception. Shortly after his apology, Griffin made two additional posts about the Super Bowl, amending his initial assertion and remarking on the remarkable chance that a preseason NFL social media post accurately predicted the Super Bowl matchup.

“Little did they know that the two guys they put closest to the trophy and furthest from the audience viewpoint would be the two Quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. 🤌🏾,” Griffin posted.

The second post followed an internet trend in which several followers observed comparable sketches and graphics anticipating the outcome of playoff games.

With all attention focused on Santa Clara, California, with one game remaining in the NFL season, there will be reason to keep an eye on Griffin to see if he can start a new streak of community note-free entries, or if more errors are on the way.
