Following his former teammate Cam Newton’s admission that he was “bitter” about not being invited to his wedding, Christian McCaffrey responded harshly to the quarterback.
Following a spectacular wedding in his partner’s home state of Rhode Island, McCaffrey, who made it to Super Bowl LVIII with the San Francisco 49ers the previous season, wed Olivia Culpo last month. Many well-known figures from the NFL world were invited to the wedding, including Greg Olsen, a pundit, and the 49ers star’s teammates Kyle Juszczyk and George Kittle.
Nevertheless, Newton received no invitation, which surprised the former Panthers quarterback. In the most recent episode of his podcast, “4th & 1,” Newton expressed his surprise at McCaffrey’s rejection. The two had a locker room together for three seasons in Carolina.
The 35-year-old, bringing up a past argument with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, remarked, “Look, dang, C Mac, I couldn’t get an invite? Was there a quarrel between Brock Purdy and? Was Brock present?
Following Newton’s remarks, McCaffrey claimed he wasn’t invited since they hadn’t spoken in four years in response to a social media recording of his remarks. He remembered an interview with Olsen in which the latter acknowledged that the day would have been far more memorable if Newton had been there. McCaffrey wrote: “This was a great night, but you know what would’ve made it even better?” I said to Greg at the bar. Greg: “What?” “If Cam were here,” I said. For four years, I have not received a reply text. Actually, they’ve just turned green.”
Greg: *Drinks a whiskey sip.It would have pleased him. Four years? even on Instagram. Me: “I was on there only once, but that doesn’t count” (insert laughing track here). They sit silently for thirty seconds until he gives the command for another round. “Why doesn’t he love me man?” asked Christian.
