Jameson Williams took a big step forward for the Detroit Lions during the 2024 season, showing flashes of the deep-threat potential that made him a first-round pick in 2022. His speed and playmaking ability added another dimension to Detroit’s offense, and fans had reason to believe he was on the path to becoming a key piece for the future. However, as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, speculation is growing about Williams’ long-term future with the team.

Detroit Free Press beat writer Dave Birkett recently floated the idea that the Lions might target Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden early in the draft. Golden, known for his explosive downfield ability, could provide Detroit with a more cost-controlled option at the same position. If general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell believe Golden can replicate or exceed Williams’ production, the team may consider shifting direction.
