With the 2025 season about to begin, the Detroit Lions have locked in their practice squad ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
The team’s final addition came in the form of edge rusher Andre Carter II, a player once considered one of college football’s most disruptive defenders.
During his time at Army, Carter built a strong résumé, totaling 95 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and two interceptions over three years. His breakout campaign came when he racked up 15.5 sacks, ranking second in the nation behind Alabama standout Will Anderson Jr.
Carter entered the NFL in 2023 with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He saw action in 12 games—primarily on special teams—where he notched two tackles. The following year, he appeared in three contests for the Las Vegas Raiders, contributing a half-sack, one tackle, and a QB hit.
Despite being waived after preseason cuts this summer, Carter turned heads by registering two sacks and seven pressures across three exhibition games with Las Vegas.
Now in Detroit, Carter becomes part of a pass-rushing unit anchored by Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport. Behind them, depth pieces include Al-Quadin Muhammad, Pat O’Connor, and Tyrus Wheat. Should injuries arise, Carter is positioned as one of the first in line to be elevated from the practice squad.
He joins fellow practice-squad edge rusher Isaac Ukwu, who appeared in two Lions games last season and recorded three tackles. Additional defenders on the unit are Keith Cooper (DL), Myles Adams (DT), Erick Hallett (S), Anthony Pittman (LB), and Loren Strickland (S).
