NFL analyst Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently outlined several major quarterback trades that could unfold in the offseason. With the 2025 NFL Draft class lacking elite quarterback prospects, teams may look to experienced players to fill their needs. Benjamin projects that 17 quarterbacks could switch teams this offseason, including a potential move for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones to the Rams as a long-term replacement for Stafford.

While Stafford remains the team’s starter for now, Benjamin argues that Rams head coach Sean McVay might want to develop a younger quarterback, much like he did with Baker Mayfield in the past. He notes that Stafford, who turns 37 in February, is nearing the later stages of his career, making it an opportune time for the Rams to start planning for the future.

Stafford’s Future Still Uncertain

Despite ongoing trade speculation, Stafford has no immediate plans to retire. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Stafford intends to play in 2025 but may need to renegotiate his deal with the Rams. Currently, his contract carries a cap hit of $49.66 million.

Following the Rams’ playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Stafford addressed his future in a press conference, stating that he would take some time to reflect on his next steps. When asked directly if he believed he still had more football left in him, he responded, “Sure feels like it.”
