Although it feels like ages ago, it’s only been a few seasons since the Detroit Lions traded long-time quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal that brought Jared Goff to Detroit. Since then, Stafford has remained one of the league’s more notable quarterbacks — and he’s not done yet.

Despite speculation that Stafford might call it quits after the 2024-25 NFL season, the veteran signal-caller has opted to return for another campaign. At 37 years old, he’s entering a stage in his career where most NFL players consider retirement, especially given the physical toll the sport takes on the body. While some quarterbacks have extended their careers into their 40s, it’s far from the norm — making Stafford’s next moves especially interesting.
