The Tennessee basketball program is gaining momentum following its advancement to the Elite Eight in 2026. The team has secured a commitment from Miles Rubin, a 6-foot-10 transfer post player, according to PortalUpdates. Rubin previously competed at Loyola Chicago.
A sports outlet, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighted Rubin’s performance, stating, “The 6’10” junior center started all 33 games, averaging 11.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. The Volunteers have acquired one of the premier rim protectors available through the transfer portal.”
The Tennessee basketball team has been actively engaging with the transfer market to recruit fresh talent. The same source also noted that Rubin will be teaming up with Belmont transfer Tyler Lundblade and Cal transfer Dai Dai Ames.
The Tennessee program is guided by seasoned head coach Rick Barnes, who has led the Volunteers to three consecutive appearances in the Elite Eight. Tennessee basketball is currently assembling one of the nation’s premier collections of transfer players.
According to 247Sports, Tennessee now possesses the second-ranked transfer class nationally. Furthermore, the Volunteers have secured pledges from three high school athletes for their 2026 recruiting class, two of whom are rated as four-star prospects by 247Sports.
Barnes stands as one of the most highly accomplished collegiate mentors currently active in the sport. He has guided teams such as Texas, Clemson, Providence, and Tennessee to the NCAA tournament and has achieved one showing in the Final Four.
However, Barnes has not yet secured a national championship. Supporters of Tennessee anticipate the upcoming season’s roster might achieve this goal. During the 2025-26 season, Tennessee was defeated by Michigan 95-62 in the Elite Eight.
Following that Elite Eight loss, Barnes stated, as reported by 247Sports, “We desire further achievement. There’s no question we seek more. We aim to surpass this hurdle.
However, one must reach this stage initially. I am just so immensely proud of the commitment these individuals demonstrated this year.” It remains to be seen whether the Volunteers can reach the Final Four in 2027.
