Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy’s past injuries may raise concerns for some teams, but the Detroit Lions aren’t worried

In addition to his system fit, McCoy’s injury history has raised questions. His 2023 season was cut short due to a fractured right ankle, and he left the Senior Bowl early with a minor hamstring issue. However, McCoy is confident in his physical recovery, focusing on staying healthy for the combine and discussing which drills to participate in with his agent.

While in Indianapolis, McCoy has met with several teams, including the Lions, and sees himself as a good fit for Detroit. “The Lions have a similar mentality when it comes to toughness,” McCoy said. “They demand toughness both mentally and physically, and I believe I fit that mold.”

Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson, who has worked alongside McCoy, supports his claims. “Bru does everything the right way,” Sampson said. “He’s always the first one in and the last one to leave. He leads by example, whether it’s through meeting with younger guys or working with the receivers. When he steps onto the field, he gives 100%—blocking, catching, everything.”

During his final season at Tennessee, McCoy caught 39 passes for 472 yards and two touchdowns. While his statistics may not stand out as much as other wide receivers in this draft class, McCoy’s mentality and work ethic align perfectly with the type of player head coach Dan Campbell values in his locker room.
