Texas Outfielder Tommy Farmer Enters NCAA Transfer Portal After Two Seasons with Longhorns
AUSTIN, TX —Texas Longhorns sophomore outfielder Tommy Farmer IV has entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking a significant roster change for the program following its early exit from the NCAA Tournament.
Farmer, a Santa Monica, California native and product of Oaks Christian High School, was a member of Texas’ 2023 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 500 player nationally and the No. 106 outfielder by Perfect Game.
During his freshman year, Farmer saw limited action, appearing in 16 games with three starts and recording a .200 batting average over 20 at-bats. However, in the 2025 season under new head coach Jim Schlossnagle, Farmer emerged as a regular starter, primarily in left field. He played in 58 games, starting 48, and posted a .249 batting average with a .710 OPS, including 13 doubles, one home run, 25 RBIs, and seven stolen bases.
Despite his contributions, Farmer’s playing time decreased during the Austin Regional, where he had only four at-bats. Freshmen Jonah Williams and Adrian Rodriguez saw increased time in left field, with Williams recording six hits in 16 at-bats and three RBIs, and Rodriguez adding three hits in 12 at-bats with two RBIs. Farmer is the sixth Texas player to enter the transfer portal since the season concluded, joining outfielders Matthew Scott and Donovan Jordan, pitcher Chance Covert, and others. His departure opens up opportunities for younger players and incoming transfers to compete for outfield positions as the Longhorns prepare for the 2026 season. ([statesman.com][5])
The NCAA transfer portal remains open until July 1, providing Farmer and other players the opportunity to explore new programs. With two years of eligibility remaining, Farmer will look to continue his collegiate baseball career at another institution.
As the Longhorns navigate offseason roster changes, they have already secured a commitment from Wichita State infielder Josh Livingston, who batted .284 with 15 home runs in 2025. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his staff will continue to assess and address roster needs through the transfer portal and upcoming recruiting efforts.([statesman.com][6], [statesman.com][7])
