The Detroit Lions have reportedly agreed to bring back linebacker Anthony Pittman on a one-year deal, continuing to strengthen their linebacker corps ahead of free agency. This move follows the Lions’ earlier decision to re-sign linebacker Derrick Barnes to a three-year extension. Though the full terms of Pittman’s deal have not been disclosed, ESPN confirmed the agreement, and Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press added that while the deal is not officially finalized, it’s expected to happen soon. Pittman, a Detroit native, was a restricted free agent, but this new contract does not appear to involve an RFA tender.

Pittman’s return to Detroit comes after a somewhat circuitous journey. After starting his career with the Lions in 2019, he briefly joined the Washington Commanders in free agency last year, hoping to secure a spot on their defense. However, after being waived at final cuts, Pittman landed on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. In December, he was brought back by the Lions, where he expressed his excitement about rejoining the team.
