The Michigan Wolverines may have received an unexpected boost in the recruitment of 2026 four-star running back Javian Osborne, thanks to the Detroit Lions. Osborne, a dynamic 5-foot-10, 195-pound prospect from Forney, Texas, is currently leaning toward the Texas Longhorns. However, the Lions’ recent hiring of Tashard Choice, the former Texas running backs coach, could shift things in Michigan’s favor.

Choice had been a key figure in recruiting for Texas, and his move to the NFL could disrupt the Longhorns’ efforts to retain Osborne. The timing of this development could give Michigan an edge, as the Wolverines offer coaching stability with running backs coach Tony Alford. Alford, who recently brought in highly-rated running backs like Jasper Parker and Donovan Johnson, is now targeting top-tier prospects like Osborne and five-star Savion Hiter for the 2026 class.
