Fitzgibbon passed away on October 7, as confirmed by his club, Brighton Phoenix. He was an impressive talent at the junior level, notably finishing 13th in the 1500m at the London Anniversary Games in 2017. That same summer, he achieved a personal best of 3:36:97 in Nijmegen.

In 2019, Fitzgibbon competed at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, but he later faced a significant setback due to a serious injury. Despite this, he continued to pursue his athletic goals, revealing earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with psychosis, a serious mental illness, in 2022.

As he prepared for the upcoming Brighton Marathon, Fitzgibbon aimed to raise funds for the charity Mind, demonstrating his commitment to both his sport and mental health awareness. His journey highlighted the challenges he faced, both on and off the track.
