Corey LaJoie of Spire Motorsports has declined to issue an apology following an altercation with Kyle Busch at Pocono Raceway.
In the last stage of the Great American Getaway 400, LaJoie’s No. 7 Chevrolet collided with Busch’s No. 8 Chevy as the latter attempted to funnel into Turn 1.
The contact caused Busch to slide over the grass and into oncoming traffic, whereupon he also caused collisions with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Harrison Burton, Ryan Preece, and AJ Allmendinger.
Even though a postseason spot was now even more elusive, Busch wrote the collision down as a typical racing mishap.
LaJoie discusses Busch incident
In a similar vein, LaJoie declined to apologize to Busch since she did not think the incident was harmful.
LaJoie retorted, “No, you have to run away.”
“You know, I’m not interested in…Although I don’t intend to hurt anyone, I believe that if Kyle blocks only once, then we both round the bend and continue fighting another day.
However, it was that second block—which he believed he had covered but didn’t—that killed him and a few other men.
But it’s incredibly difficult, dude. Running 19th is so freaking hard.
It’s all I have, my tongue hanging out, so you really have to be flawless.
The thirty-two-year-old declined to offer an apology when asked if he had anything to say to Busch.
LaJoie continued, “I don’t think Kyle and I are going to intentionally crash into each other; we’ve been racing around each other for a long enough time.”
He and I are both guys who, to be honest, feel like we belong, but I won’t apologize. I don’t regret it because that was the issue.
