To compete, the Cowboys will need to use their most potent offensive weapon.

After a third straight 12-5 season, the Dallas Cowboys had high expectations going into the new NFL season. However, their hopes of winning the Super Bowl are clouded by the impending dilemma surrounding CeeDee Lamb’s contract.

Lamb, one of the league’s best wide receivers, is demanding a contract that matches his elite reputation, but club owner and general manager Jerry Jones has so far refused to budge.

Lamb is now scheduled to play under his fifth-year rookie option, which does not guarantee a stable financial future. He would be severely limited in his future earning possibilities if he were to sustain a significant injury this season.

Lamb’s demand for a new contract that is on par with those signed by other elite young receivers like Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown is highlighted by this risk.

Lamb’s demands are justified by his performance. He caught 135 passes for 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in the previous season. He has now surpassed 1,000 yards in three straight seasons, having gained at least 935 yards annually since joining the league.

His position as one of the NFL’s best receivers is cemented by these numbers. Lamb was a key component of the Cowboys’ offensive scheme, but he was noticeably missing when the team reported to Oxnard, California, for training camp. Until his contract problem is addressed, Lamb has chosen to train on his own.

The league’s most recent contracts demonstrate the significant financial stakes. Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings agreed to a four-year, $140 million contract deal last month.

Lamb’s new contract is anticipated to fall somewhat short of this range. The upcoming contract talks with other elite players will only make things more difficult for Dallas. QB Dak Prescott will also need a new contract, which won’t come cheap, and defensive end Micah Parsons is due for a big extension that would make him the highest paid player in the NFL.

The Cowboys must make a crucial choice. It is critical to their performance this season that they find a means to meet Lamb’s contract expectations.

The need to find a solution and get Lamb back on the field is critical because the season is about to begin. The outcome of this contract issue will have a big impact on the Cowboys’ hopes of winning the Super Bowl for the first time in thirty years.
