With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, the Detroit Lions are actively seeking defensive reinforcements to strengthen their team for the critical second half of the season.

Among the top trade candidates linked to Detroit is New York Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, as reported by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.

Ojulari, a former University of Georgia star and a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has earned a spot on Knox’s “trade block big board” for consecutive weeks. His recent performances, coupled with the Giants’ challenging season, have positioned him as a prime trade option.

This season, Ojulari has recorded six sacks, five of which came over the past three games, stepping up in the absence of the Giants’ main edge rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

With Thibodeaux expected to return by Week 10, Ojulari could become more available, especially considering his contract status. With free agency looming, Ojulari could be a short-term boost for Detroit while allowing the Lions to gauge his potential fit.

Despite a strong season start, the Lions face a weakened defensive front after Aidan Hutchinson’s injury. Hutchinson’s return date is uncertain, and Marcus Davenport is out for the year with a triceps injury, intensifying Detroit’s need for a new edge rusher. Ojulari could offer valuable support by keeping opposing offenses from focusing solely on Detroit’s other pass-rushing threats.

Knox notes that while Ojulari may not match Hutchinson’s caliber, he could still significantly impact Detroit’s pass rush, making it harder for opponents to contend with the Lions’ defense. His arrival could bolster Detroit’s playoff chances and help drive a successful postseason push.

With Detroit’s front office exploring options, Ojulari’s youth, proven skill, and potential availability make him an appealing target as the trade deadline draws near.
