Cowboys Reflect on Emotional Impact of Gruesome Injury

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys’ Monday night was overshadowed by more than just a lopsided 34-10 home loss to the Houston Texans. The defeat marked Dallas’ fifth consecutive loss, dropping their record to 3-7 and leaving them winless at home this season.

Adding to the struggles was a series of player injuries, including a particularly severe shoulder injury to safety Markquese Bell. During the second quarter, while covering a kickoff and pursuing Texans returner Dameon Pierce, Bell collided with a pile and landed awkwardly, causing his arm and shoulder to bend unnaturally.

Medical staff rushed to assist Bell, escorting him off the field while trainer Jim Maurer carefully supported his injured arm. Initial reports suggest Bell may have dislocated his shoulder, with season-ending surgery being a possible outcome.

On Tuesday, during media availability at The Star, Cowboys special-teams coach John “Bones” Fassel spoke emotionally about Bell’s injury. “Man, he got hurt doing what he does best, just flying in there, diving,” Fassel said. “He’s going to be OK … but damn, I’m hurting for him. He was on a mission and was as good as we’ve had in a while.”
