The Detroit Lions are one of the NFL’s most dominant and complete teams this season, sitting atop the NFC with a 9-1 record.

A key factor in their success has been quarterback Jared Goff’s efficient performance. Goff has completed 73% of his passes for 2,492 yards and 20 touchdowns. However, he also has nine interceptions, five of which occurred in a single game.

Despite drafting a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions appear committed to Goff. His stellar 2023 campaign, which took Detroit to the NFC Championship game, and his even stronger performance this season suggest Goff will remain the team’s quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Detroit Lions May Trade Backup Quarterback

Hendon Hooker, the former Tennessee Volunteers star quarterback, could be on the move next season. The Lions selected Hooker in the third round of the 2023 draft, where some analysts had ranked him among the top quarterbacks alongside CJ Stroud and Bryce Young. Unfortunately, a torn ACL during his final college season at Tennessee hurt his draft stock. Over his college career at Virginia Tech and Tennessee, Hooker tallied 8,974 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while also rushing for 2,079 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Possible Destinations for Hendon Hooker in 2025

Several NFL teams are in need of a capable quarterback, particularly one with a manageable contract. Hooker showed significant talent in college and has benefited from learning under Jared Goff, Ben Johnson, and Dan Campbell with the Lions.

Las Vegas Raiders

If Head Coach Antonio Pierce stays, the Raiders could be a fit. Pierce favored trading up for Jayden Daniels in the last draft and has experience with versatile quarterbacks like Hooker.

New York Giants
After benching Daniel Jones, the Giants seem poised to draft a quarterback with the first overall pick. However, they could draft a playmaker like Travis Hunter and bring in Hooker as a cost-effective starter.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns face severe salary cap challenges due to Deshaun Watson’s contract. Hooker could provide an affordable replacement with the skills Cleveland initially sought in Watson.

Miami Dolphins

If Tua Tagovailoa retires due to concussion concerns, Hooker could thrive in Miami’s offense alongside Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane under Coach Mike McDaniel.
