The Detroit Lions have emerged as a top contender in trade speculation surrounding Cleveland Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett, who officially requested a trade on Monday.

Garrett took to social media to announce his decision, emphasizing his desire to compete for a Super Bowl, something he believes the Browns can’t offer.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent,” Garrett wrote. “The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton; it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Although Garrett wants out, reports indicate the Browns have no intention of trading him. However, with his public demand, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team ultimately gives in.

The Lions are a logical landing spot, considering their need for pass-rush support alongside Aidan Hutchinson. Adding Garrett would significantly boost Detroit’s defense and enhance their Super Bowl chances.

Garrett, currently in town for the Super Bowl, made media appearances on Wednesday, where he was inevitably asked about playing for the Lions. However, he remained tight-lipped.

“Myles Garrett making the rounds on radio row here at the Super Bowl, not taking trade questions,” wrote Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on X. “Asked him if he has any thoughts on playing for the Lions as he went from interview to interview, politely said: ‘Not yet.'”

With his trade request still fresh and his contract with Cleveland intact, his cautious response makes sense.

That said, Garrett likely sees the Lions as an appealing destination, considering their Super Bowl potential. Playing alongside Hutchinson could also be enticing, as it would ease some of the pressure he’s faced in Cleveland.

One key factor to note is that Garrett doesn’t have a no-trade clause, meaning the Browns can send him anywhere. However, they will likely consider his preferences when making a decision.
