The Kentucky Wildcats have bolstered their roster with a key addition from the transfer portal, bringing in a player who seems to be an ideal fit for Mark Pope’s system.

Former Tulane wing Kam Williams has committed to Kentucky, making him the program’s first transfer portal signing this offseason. Speaking with ESPN, Williams shared his reasoning for making a swift decision to join the Wildcats.

“Opportunities like this don’t come around often, so I knew I had to act fast. With others vying for the same spot, I couldn’t afford to wait.”

Standing at 6’8”, Williams completed his freshman year at Tulane, where he contributed 9.3 points per game. His reputation as a proficient three-point shooter is well-earned, as he connected on 41% of his attempts from beyond the arc last season. Williams is expected to fill the void left by Koby Brea, Kentucky’s current sharpshooter, who will be moving on after the tournament, with potential NBA aspirations.

“My goal is to reach the NBA, and Kentucky’s program has a strong track record of developing players to reach that level.”

While Williams marks the Wildcats’ first acquisition through the transfer portal, he likely won’t be the last. Alongside Brea, several of Kentucky’s top scorers—Amari Williams, Jaxson Robinson, Andrew Carr, Lamont Butler, and Ansley Almonor—are set to graduate once the team’s tournament run concludes.
