Kentucky has set its sights on another forward to fill the gaps left by Andrew Carr and Ansley Almonor’s departures. One player generating buzz in the transfer portal is Duncan Powell.
According to 247 Sports recruiting analyst Dushawn London, Powell, a Georgia Tech transfer, visited Memphis on Wednesday but has also been in discussions with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 225 pounds, Powell has taken a unique path through college basketball. He began his journey at North Carolina A&T, where he played for two seasons, averaging 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 21.8 minutes per game.
Seeking a bigger stage, he transferred to Sacramento State for his redshirt sophomore year, making an immediate impact by contributing 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while playing 26.5 minutes per contest.
His strong showing at Sacramento State led to an opportunity at a high-major program, landing him at Georgia Tech for his redshirt junior season. In his lone year with the Yellow Jackets, Powell appeared in 33 games, starting 13, and posted solid stats—12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 29.5 minutes per game. Now, after just one season in Atlanta, he’s back in the transfer portal.
Powell’s skill set has attracted interest from several programs, including Kentucky, Memphis, Providence, TCU, and Ole Miss. His ability to contribute as a scorer and rebounder makes him an appealing option for teams looking to bolster their frontcourt with experienced talent.
As Powell explores his next destination, Kentucky remains a program to watch. His versatility and experience at multiple levels of college basketball could make him a key addition to Mark Pope’s squad.
