As college football approaches, excitement is building, particularly in Austin, Texas. Despite a strong performance in the College Football Playoff semifinals in recent years, the Texas Longhorns have fallen short of advancing, but under head coach Steve Sarkisian, the program is showing significant promise. With former five-star recruit Arch Manning set to be the starting quarterback for the 2025 season, expectations for the team are soaring. Many are already considering Manning a top contender for the Heisman Trophy due to his impressive skill set and the potential to lead a high-powered offense. However, legendary coach Urban Meyer, during a recent podcast episode, expressed caution.

Meyer, along with Rob Stone and Mark Ingram, discussed the upcoming season for the Longhorns, but when asked about Manning’s ability to meet the high expectations, Meyer was hesitant. “Will Arch Manning live up to the hype?” Meyer questioned. “I think it’s uncertain. I need to analyze the players around him, but the pressure he faces at that school, with everything expected of him, is immense. He’s a talented player, but what defines success? Is it winning the Heisman, or does it have to be a national championship? Texas went 13-3 last season… can Manning replicate that with such a tough schedule? I’m not sure.”

Despite Meyer’s uncertainties, Manning will face a massive test right away in Week 1 of the season when Texas meets the defending national champion, Ohio State Buckeyes, in a high-stakes matchup in Columbus. The pressure is on, as expectations for the Longhorns, following their strong performance last year, are to compete for a national title. Anything less will likely be considered a disappointment.
