Netflix has officially announced the premiere date for the next season of its popular sports docuseries Quarterback, with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff set to be one of the show’s leading stars. Football fans can mark their calendars for Tuesday, July 8, when the series will be available for streaming.

The latest installment of Quarterback will focus on three NFL quarterbacks who each experienced very different journeys during the 2024 season: Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons. The series aims to give fans an inside look at the professional and personal challenges faced by these athletes both on and off the field.

Goff’s story is particularly compelling. After being traded to Detroit in 2021, many doubted whether he could succeed outside of Los Angeles. However, Goff silenced critics with an outstanding 2024 campaign. He finished the season as an MVP finalist, helping lead the Lions to a second consecutive NFC North division title. Detroit ended the regular season with a remarkable 15-2 record, and Goff played a central role in that success. He threw for 4,629 yards, recorded 37 touchdown passes, and had just 12 interceptions—one of the best statistical seasons of his career.

Joe Burrow’s season in Cincinnati followed a different trajectory. Despite putting up impressive individual numbers, the Bengals failed to recover from a slow start and ultimately missed the playoffs. Burrow’s story will likely focus on his perseverance through adversity and his efforts to keep the team competitive.

Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins faced his own set of challenges in Atlanta. After signing a lucrative four-year contract with the Falcons during the offseason, expectations were high. However, Cousins struggled with consistency through the first half of the season. Eventually, the Falcons coaching staff made the difficult decision to bench him in favor of rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., their 2024 first-round draft pick. This storyline promises to give viewers insight into the difficult roster decisions NFL teams face and how veteran players handle transitions like this.

The newly released trailer for the series offers a sneak peek at several memorable moments from Goff’s season. Fans can see clips of him catching a touchdown pass against the Seattle Seahawks and connecting with tight end Sam LaPorta for a score. Another standout moment features Goff reacting to NFL legend Tom Brady. During a broadcast, Brady joked that he would love to play quarterback for the Lions. Goff, with a smile, responded: “Too bad, Tom. You’re retired.”

Goff also opens up about his journey and mindset after being traded from the Rams. “A lot of people at my former organization probably thought I was being cast aside,” Goff says in the trailer. “But I saw the opportunity I had here was something special.”

This will be the second consecutive year that a Detroit Lions player is featured in a Netflix football docuseries. In 2023, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown appeared in Receiver, a show that spotlighted top NFL wideouts.

With behind-the-scenes footage, in-game highlights, and personal reflections from each quarterback, this season of Quarterback promises to deliver both drama and inspiration for NFL fans everywhere.
