On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins bolstered their secondary by signing cornerback Jack Jones to a one-year contract. Jones recorded 69 tackles, three interceptions—one of which was returned for a touchdown—and 15 pass breakups across 16 starts for the Raiders last season. He was let go by the Raiders earlier this year. A fourth-round selection by New England in 2022, Jones had two inconsistent seasons with the Patriots before being waived and picked up by Las Vegas in 2023.

Jones participated in 24 games and started 19 for Las Vegas, picking off five passes and returning three for touchdowns. He frequently found himself out of position and permitted opposing receivers to achieve significant plays. His four touchdowns on defense are the second highest in the NFL since he joined the league in 2022. He was let go by the Raiders earlier this year. Miami sought a starting-caliber cornerback after trading All-Pro Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month. This offseason, the Dolphins brought in multiple cornerbacks who are anticipated to vie for roster positions. This week, veteran Artie Burns was placed on injured reserve following a torn ACL sustained on the first day of training camp. On Saturday as well, the Dolphins released cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr.
