The Detroit Lions looked every bit like NFC contenders again on Sunday, crushing the Washington Commanders 44–22 in a dominant showing that reminded everyone why this team sits atop the NFC North. While head coach Dan Campbell’s play-calling grabbed much of the spotlight, wide receiver Jameson Williams’ postgame comments revealed a focused, confident player who believes the Lions’ offense is only getting started.

Williams, who finished with a pair of explosive touchdowns, spoke after the game about his improved chemistry with quarterback Jared Goff and how Detroit’s game plan exploited Washington’s defensive approach. “I think it was effective,” Williams said. “Going over the game plan, how they wanted to play us, there’s a lot of man and match coverage. We knew if I got one-on-one looks, I just had to win my routes and make plays.”

The speedy former Alabama star did exactly that. His ability to stretch the field opened up the Lions’ passing game, creating balance and rhythm that had been missing in recent weeks. Williams credited Campbell’s aggressive play-calling for unlocking the offense’s potential, noting how much confidence it gave the players. “Coach Campbell told us to play fast and trust the system,” Williams added. “When your head coach believes in you enough to take control and call the plays, you’ve got to respond. And we did.”

Campbell, meanwhile, praised Williams for his professionalism and perseverance through early-season struggles. “He’s been doing a great job and busting his rear,” Campbell said postgame. “He’s stayed patient, and now you’re seeing the results.”

In the locker room, Williams’ energy was contagious. Teammates celebrated his breakout performance, joking about his “cheat-code speed” that makes life easier for the entire offense. Even in the middle of the celebration, Williams kept things light, joking with reporters about Campbell’s new game-day look. “Man, Coach with the glasses—he was seeing everything today,” Williams laughed.

With his performance and words, Jameson Williams showed not only the confidence of a rising star but also the leadership of a player who understands the bigger picture. If Sunday’s win was any indication, the Lions’ offense is finally back in sync—and Williams is right in the middle of it.

Still, his tone quickly shifted back to business. “We’re not satisfied,” he said. “This is the standard now. Every week, we’ve got to come with the same fire.”
