MADISON, WI , 2025 — The University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band has just been ranked the No. 1 college marching band in the United States, earning the top spot in the 2025 National Collegiate Band Rankings. This prestigious recognition places the Wisconsin Badgers Marching Band at the forefront of musical excellence, precision marching, and school spirit nationwide.

With over 300 student members, the Badger Band has long been a staple of Big Ten football culture, dazzling crowds at Camp Randall Stadium and beyond with high-energy halftime shows, intricate formations, and a signature “Fifth Quarter” performance that keeps fans cheering long after the final whistle.

The top ranking, issued by the National Marching Band Review Council, was based on criteria including musical performance, marching precision, audience engagement, innovation, and social media impact. Wisconsin’s unique combination of tradition and showmanship helped propel it ahead of other powerhouse programs, including Ohio State, Michigan, and USC.

Dr. Corey Pompey, Director of the UW Marching Band, said the honor is a reflection of the band’s hard work and enduring commitment to excellence.

“This band is more than music—it’s a community. Being named the best in the country means everything to us,” Pompey said.

The news has generated buzz across social media, with the hashtag #BadgerBandNo1 trending on platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). Fans, students, and alumni are celebrating the achievement as a point of pride for the university.

This isn’t the first time the Badger Band has gained national attention. From Rose Bowl appearances to NFL Draft performances, the band continues to showcase the spirit of Wisconsin on the national stage.

For students looking to join a top-tier musical program, the message is clear: Wisconsin is the place to march.
