Young player scored late to help Bayern Munich beat Liverpool 4-3

Match winner Frans Kratzig joked that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was amazed after his superb goal in their pre-season friendly.

Bayern Munich’s talent returned home in injury time and caused the Reds’ first defeat in the preparation for the next Premier League season.

Liverpool took a two-goal lead before being caught three times by Thomas Tuchel’s side. They continued to win 4-3 to lift the Singapore championship trophy thanks to Kratzig’s goal.

Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk scored in the first half but the two-goal lead was short-lived as Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane restored the tie. Luis Diaz, who came on as a second-half substitute, saved a superb Liverpool move.

However, the Bundesliga champions would be back again as Josip Stanisic scored and Kratzig completed the comeback in the second half. The young German was smiling after the friendly and shared a hug with Klopp.

Kraztig smiled when asked what the Liverpool boss had told him, he joked:
“I think he’s surprised I can shoot like that.”

Speaking after the loss, Klopp said:
“I hate to lose. When that happens, I feel it, but he’s a strong pre-season opponent. Today was really tough. We played about the first 10 minutes and then we really got into everything.

“Am I surprised by the intensity? No. That’s pretty obvious when you set up a game between two teams and the coach is pretty competitive. It has to be intense.

“The players must have looked at the clock and thought ‘oh, it’s only been 10 minutes, it’s already 1:50. “We’ve had two camps in a row and this is the last day. The most important news is that no one was hurt. Really great.

“The physical aspect of today’s match was a hugely important session for us.”

Liverpool play another pre-season friendly on Monday 7 August when SV Darmstadt takes on the Red Devils at Deepdale in Preston North End.
