Liverpool could be close to reaching an agreement to sign Southampton and Belgium star Romeo Lavia.

According to reports, Liverpool target Romeo Lavia has made it clear that he wants to join the club. It is thought the Southampton star is waiting for the Red Devils, who are preparing a ‘final’ offer to sign him.

Lavia has only had one season in the Premier League. However, his performances for The Saints have earned him links to a host of top clubs in England.

He just joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer for a fee of up to 14 million pounds. But despite their relegation from the top tier, the south coast club will make a big profit.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for Lavia. But it looks like Liverpool are in the best position to strike a deal in the coming days.

The Red Devils have seen two offers rejected for the 19-year-old. Southampton are expecting a package totaling almost £50m.

Lavia is a full Belgian international and Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri has given an update on his future. He claims Liverpool are now preparing a third and ‘final’ offer for Lavia.

The initial offer will be £40m but will include add-ons that Liverpool say will meet Southampton’s needs. Lavia’s side are currently waiting for the Merseyside club to make an offer after confirming their desire to join them.

The report says Liverpool are currently the only club able to make an offer Southampton accept for the young star. Lavia will become the third midfield signing for Jurgen Klopp this summer.

It is a position that Klopp prioritizes towards that window. The departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita on free transfers have left the Germans with no choice in midfield.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have come in for a combined initial fee of £95m to boost resources. But since then, Klopp has lost two other top members of his midfield.

Both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have made successful moves to the Saudi Pro League. This once again caused Liverpool to run out of options in the midfield.

Lavia cannot replace the experience of Henderson or Fabinho. However, he will be adding younger strikers to the Liverpool squad who probably looked his age last season.
