Kelleher has clearly been determined to leave Anfield before next season, with the Irishman keen to pursue a starting place elsewhere. However, with Liverpool having made a high bid for him, no offers were made.

Kelleher has been in pre-season and is expected to sit on the bench for next Sunday’s Premier League opener against Chelsea. However, according to The Daily Mail, he may not be at the club until September.

They reckon the 24-year-old is one of two players still likely to leave Liverpool in the next four weeks. The other is midfielder Nat Phillips who was not present during the recent tour of Singapore.

No further details were given about interested clubs or the potential amount involved. But it looks like Kelleher and Phillips still have a question mark on their heads.

Liverpool not keen on losing Kelleher

Losing Kelleher at this pre-season would really be a huge loss for Liverpool. With so much to do in midfield and potentially in defence, they don’t need to fight for a goalkeeper either.

And they should replace the Ireland international. Make no mistake, Adrian is no longer good enough to be the Reds’ No 2. He showed it in a short pre-season performance this summer.

Marcelo Pitaluga is still not ready, as are many other young Liverpool goalkeepers.

With previously reported target Leopold Wahlstedt also seemingly out of the market, the talent pool available at this stage of the summer is dwindling. So with our condolences to Caoimhin, we will need him to stay.

Of course, the Irish will get through without too much difficulty. He could also get a little more game time this season with Europa League matches on the menu.

However, despite – in Phillips’ own words – a ‘fantastic’ goalkeeper, he is clearly not going to usurp Alisson Becker any time soon. It was a season of sitting on the bench.

As for Phillips, let’s hope he finally succeeds. His lack of a trip to the Far East suggests a transfer is near. Leeds United have been closely linked and it looks like a solid choice for Nat.
