Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has told Jurgen Klopp who he must sign, though it could prove difficult.

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has told the club they have a chance at winning the Premier League – but only if they sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. Jurgen Klopp’s midfield is currently a little light in the defensive area, a fact that was proven by their showing over 90 minutes against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones have both been filling in the deep-lying roles away from their regular positions due to the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Both Romeo Lavia and Andre Trindade have been noted as potential signings, the former subject of a rejected second offer from Southampton while talks opened for the latter on Tuesday. Taking to Twitter, Hutchison made his current stance clear, and it didn’t involve either midfielders. The 52-year-old, who now works as a pundit and co-commentator, believes Manchester City are “obvious” favourites to claim a fourth top-flight title in succession.

But Hutchison, who played for the Reds in the early 90s, believes his old club could pip City with the addition of Caicedo ahead of the campaign. He said: “As it stands (without any signings) Man City are my obvious favourites to win the Prem, but I stand by if Liverpool sign Caicedo (on top of what they have already got) they could win it. He is that good!”

There’s no doubt Caicedo would be a major addition to any Premier League midfield, let alone Liverpool’s. As per the Analyst, the Ecuadorian’s 88.9 percent pass accuracy was second-highest among all midfielders last season, and also achieved the second most possession wins leading to a team shot (18).

However. this move is likely to be extremely difficult to achieve following the latest news from the South Coast.

Brighton are expecting to keep hold of their man now, as reported by BBC Sport and Sky Sports News, in what would be a major blow to Hutchison’s ideal scenario coming to fruition.

The Seagulls have maintained a £100m asking price this summer, one they deem is fair after allowing Alexis Mac Allister to exit to the Liverpool in June for £35m and also based off the £105m fee Arsenal finally paid West Ham United for Declan Rice.

The Reds have only ever been credited with tentative interest in Caicedo anyway, as the Gunners pushed to make his signing in January before Chelsea assumed control this summer, seeing bids of £70m and £80m turned down in recent weeks.
