Liverpool suffer fresh Lavia blow

After seeing a second transfer offer worth £41m rejected, Liverpool have learned that Romeo Lavia ‘will be involved’ in Southampton’s first game of the season on Friday night, traveling to Sheffield on Wednesday when they come back in the championship. After being relegated to the Premier League, the Saints have appointed Russell Martin as their manager, who have confirmed 19-year-old Belgian midfielder Lavia will play at Hillsborough.

Liverpool have offered Celta Vigo €25m (£21.5m) to sign Gabri Veiga and send him back on loan, according to Spain’s COPE via Estadio Deportivo. Veiga, 21, is valued at €40m (£34.5m) by former Reds manager Rafa Benitez’s side but the Anfield chiefs are hoping to convince them with a loan offer.

The Spain youngster recently suffered a heartbreak during the UEFA Under-21 Championship, losing to England in the final following a goal from Liverpool’s Curtis Jones. Veiga, who can play in a number of central positions, has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain weighing up offers

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains a free agent after being released by Liverpool, but he is currently considering an offer from Turkish giants Besiktas. BBC Sport reports that the former Reds player, whose time at Anfield has been marred by injury problems, has a two-year deal on the table, while Saudi clubs also have interested in his service.

Last season, English compatriots Nathan Redmond and Dele Alli played for Besiktas, although both have now returned to the Premier League. The Istanbul-based club are also keen to sign Demarai Grey, although it is noted that the winger’s preference from Everton is a move to Fulham.
