Fabrizio Romano tells that Liverpool still want to sign 21-year-old Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich.

Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke is apparently a huge fan of the former Ajax man and wants him on board at Anfield. Speaking on the Born and Red YouTube channel, here is what Romano had to say about the Reds’ pursuit of Gravenberch:

“They love Gravenberch, 100%. It’s about the director, it’s about Jurgen Klopp, they really, really like the player and the player is open to the idea to make a move.”

“Ryan Gravenberch wants to speak to Bayern again to clarify his position. What I can say is that Bayern are still of the same position as in June, July and now in August – they don’t want to sell the player, they are sure that Ryan Gravenberch is going to be a top star of the position in the future, so it’s not an easy conversation with Bayern when they say no.”

While the Dutchman has not had enough game-time during his time at Bavaria, the Bundesliga giants are opposed to letting go of him. They view him as a player who could play an important role in their future. However, Gravenberch wants to start games, and with the lack of midfield depth at Liverpool, he could surely garner enough playing time.

Challenging Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a spot in the starting XI might be easier than replacing established midfield maestros, Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich. However, that also depends on the requirements of the team.

Gravenberch’s skill set fits Jurgen Klopp’s system like a glove and he could surely help ease out a lot of problems. His box-to-box abilities coupled with his versatility means that he could play the Fabinho role to a decent extent as well.

Prying away a player of Gravenberch’s calibre from a European powerhouse requires strategic manoeuvring. Having said that, his openness to a potential move indicates the attractiveness of a club like Liverpool.

The prospect of donning the iconic red jersey and playing a pivotal role under a renowned manager like Jurgen Klopp could be an enticing proposition for any young talent. As negotiations unfold, the anticipation mounts and Liverpool fans will wait to see if Gravenberch will indeed grace Anfield in the seasons to come.
