Jurgen Klopp has previously praised his qualities, saying in 2019:

Leandro Parades and Julian Draxler, who both spent last season at other clubs, are also in the group deemed redundant or the Parisians want to lighten the load.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has told Mbappe to either sign a new contract or leave this summer, but the player stands his ground. Some in the French capital are willing to leave the Frenchman out for a full year as punishment as they recruit new attackers.
The Qataris said earlier this summer:
“We want him to stay, but he cannot go free. There was an oral agreement and he discussed it in an interview. And I was really shocked to hear that he decided to leave on a free basis. It’s disappointing because Mbappé is a great guy, a true gentleman and goes free, undermining the biggest club in France, not him. When I heard the news, I was shocked and disappointed.
Al Hilal were the only club to make an offer for the 24-year-old but were not interested in talking to them despite their world record offer and the promise of a lucrative contract. Few clubs have the financial wherewithal to strike an agreement, meaning any stalemate is likely to continue.
