Liverpool are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Moises Caicedo, with Chelsea now closing in on an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the Guardian, the Blues hope to seal the 21-year-old’s signature before this weekend’s clash against Liverpool, though Chelsea are yet to strike an agreement with Brighton over a transfer fee.

The Seagulls have held out for £100m for Caicedo all summer, a factor that has kept Liverpool largely away from the midfielder despite their interest in the Ecuador international, who could soon become a Chelsea player.

Praised by Chris Sutton as an ‘unbelievable’ player, Caicedo would have been a dream signing for Liverpool this summer had the Reds had the funds to make a deal possible.

However, with the Anfield side being limited by what they can do having finished fifth last season, Chelsea have been given a free pass to sign Caicedo this window with little resistance.

Indeed, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will match Brighton’s £100m asking price for Caicedo, but this latest update seems to suggest that the midfielder could be signed in time to face Liverpool on Sunday.
