Football Transfers reports that Liverpool has indicated ‘clear interest’ in acquiring Brighton & Hove Albion defender Pervis Estupinan as Jurgen Klopp tries to bolster his back line.

According to the online news source, Klopp is a “huge fan” of the left-back and believes that the South American is the best choice to step in as Andy Robertson’s long-term replacement at Anfield.

Since transferring from Hull City to Liverpool in 2017, Robertson has played regularly for the Reds. In 267 appearances across all competitions, the 29-year-old has contributed 63 assists along with eight goals.

He made a total of 43 appearances for Liverpool last season, contributing 11 assists across all competitions as they finished fifth in the Premier League standings and missed out on qualifying for the Champions League.

Robertson, a full-back, acknowledged he had to modify his playing style to fit in with the new manner of playing after Klopp changed his system toward the end of the season, which caused his performance to decline.

Estupinan has reportedly been listed as Liverpool’s top priority in their search for a new left-back to challenge Robertson, according to Football Transfers.

According to the source, Klopp is a ‘big fan’ of the Ecuadorian international and Liverpool have indicated a ‘clear interest’ in signing the 25-year-old.

Liverpool would have to spend more than the £28 million Transfermarkt estimate of Estupinan because Brighon has a reputation for being a strong negotiator this summer.

The South American has been a fan favorite at the Amex Stadium, playing in 41 games and contributing to nine goals as Roberto De Zerbi’s team qualified for the UEFA Europa League by placing sixth in the Premier League.

The future of Kostas Tsimikas would be seriously questioned if he were to transfer to Merseyside this summer. The Greek international has struggled to make an impact since joining from Olympiacos in 2020, and if Liverpool decides to purchase Estupinan this summer, he’d certainly become a transfer target.
