Khephren Thuram, a midfielder for OGC Nice, might potentially be chosen by Liverpool above Romeo Lavia as Southampton continue to value the 19-year-old at £50 million.

With a new report indicating Liverpool rekindle their interest in Khephren Thuram, the Reds’ most recent bid, which the Saints rejected for £46 million, might have been the final straw.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has made a bid of £48 million, which is the most competitive with Southampton’s asking price of £50 million.

It would be strange for Liverpool to decide to end negotiations with Southampton after three weeks when they are so close to reaching an agreement, unless they believe the Frenchman has a higher ceiling than Lavia, as The Northern Echo claimed in June that Nice value Thuram at £60 million.

But Thuram also checks the same boxes that Liverpool will be highly interested in, making up for Lavia’s lack of physicality.

Thuram should Liverpool acquire him?
Many Liverpool fans would undoubtedly be happy if Thuram’s signing resulted in the club also acquiring Lavia. There is a significant gap in the no. 6 position because Jordan Henderson and Fabinho transferred to the Saudi Pro League.

Lavia and Thuram both fit Liverpool’s style of play, but if the Reds only bring in three defenders this summer after releasing or selling six since the start of the previous campaign, Jurgen Klopp will struggle to win any hardware.

Liverpool will currently participate in the Europa League rather than the Champions League. Failures from last summer cannot be permitted to happen again this year.
