Liverpool has agreed a fee with Brighton for the signing of Moisés Caicedo and the Ecuadorean could bring two things Jürgen Klopp needs in his midfield.

Not for the first time with Liverpool, a transfer suddenly appeared. Less than 48 hours ago, few could have predicted the latest twist in Jürgen Klopp’s bid to bring in another midfielder for the club, when Moisés Caicedo wasn’t even in the conversation.

But behind the scenes, it looks like Liverpool are looking to make a sensational game, bringing the Ecuadorian to Anfield for a record British transfer fee. As Klopp confirmed in his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea, according to Blood Red, the club have agreed a deal for Caicedo.

There’s still work to be done, but Liverpool fans can be excited by the club’s approach to bring in an extremely accomplished midfielder.

Like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Caicedo has the ability to make a transformative impact on Liverpool. He could be the perfect final piece in the rebuilding of the club’s midfield.

Much of that depends, of course, on how perfectly he has played the No 6 role at Brighton in the Premier League over the past year. With his dynamism and intelligent reading of the game, Caicedo is the type of player that Liverpool lack.

Klopp’s centre-backs are calling for a young midfielder who can disrupt attacks and defend the Red Devils defence.

Caicedo can be that player. Last season as per FBref, he was the U23 player in the Premier League with the most tackles and interceptions (156) making more than Arsenal’s Declan Rice (142) among other elite stars.

But as much as Caicedo will bring the defensive stability Klopp needs, he will also add much-needed control in the middle of the park. There has been a lot made about the Ecuadorean’s defensive ability, but he is much more than just a destroyer.

He is also a great technician and someone who can absolutely bring the ball out effectively and help Liverpool retain possession.
