Manu Kone is a player interested in Liverpool this summer but Borussia Mönchengladbach president Roland Virkus has detailed a condition for them to hold talks.

Borussia Mönchengladbach CEO Roland Virkus has confirmed that Liverpool target Manu Kone will stay unless a “crazy offer” is made.

The France Under-21 international has attracted interest from Liverpool when he was on their shortlist this summer. Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his engine room early in the summer, with three of his options set to become free agents when their respective contracts expire.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were brought in as part of the restructuring, but the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho sparked new business needs.

Kone suffered a knee injury during France’s European Under-21 Championship campaign in Georgia and Romania in July, which appears to have severed ties. He is among the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and French team-mate Khephren Thuram who have emerged as potential players for the Reds.

However, the Gladbach chief has confirmed that Kone will not leave BORUSSIA-Park this summer unless a substantial offer is made for the midfielder.

Virkus said: “We have decided that Manu Koné will stay at Borussia. “Of course, you can never rule out anything in football. If there is a crazy offer we will have to talk again.

“But actually the goal – and this has also been discussed with the player – is for him to stay here first and get back to full fitness.

“Manu sees something happening in Gladbach right now. And he might want to be a part of it.”

In recent months, Romeo Lavia has been a player of interest to Liverpool. The Reds have had three offers rejected by Southampton for the 19-year-old, and in recent hours Brighton & Hove Albion’s o has been approached by the Red Devils.
