Liverpool have agreed a deal with Brighton to sign Moises Caicedo for a fee of £110m, which would break the current British transfer record.

According to David Ornstein, the personal conditions are almost complete and the medical visit is scheduled for Friday.

The Reds made the highest offer for the Ecuadorian midfielder, beating Chelsea’s and Bayern Munich’s bids of £100 million and £90 million, respectively, in an auction held by Brighton with a deadline of midnight for interested clubs.

The youngster will surpass Enzo Fernandez’s £105 million transfer from Benfica to Chelsea as the most expensive British transfer ever.

Earlier in the summer transfer window, Caicedo made a £35 million move to the Reds, where he will reunite with former teammate Alexis Mac Allister.

With the purchase, Liverpool’s summer spending has increased to about £205 million. Dominik Szobozslai also left RB Leipzig for £60 million in July.

In terms of departures, Caicedo will move into the middle of the field to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, who left the team for a combined $52 million

The main problem that needs to be resolved in Liverpool’s squad is Caicedo, who is a defensive midfielder by nature and frequently plays at the base of a midfield three.

The Ecuadorian international made 43 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions last season, and he stood out during Brighton’s European qualification.

Caicedo, who is only 21 years old, has 106 club appearances and 32 caps to his name, making him an experienced player despite his young age. Since his relocation in January 2021, 53 of those have been for Brighton. The last 24 hours may have been the most chaotic in recent memory when it comes to transfer business.

When Chelsea appeared poised to swoop in and steal Romeo Lavia, Liverpool’s top midfield target, at this time last day, the fan base descended into chaos.

As the Reds’ summer appeared to be heading toward bitter disappointment, FSGOUT topped the trending list last night with 21.2k tweets.

Then, in typical Liverpool fashion, the Reds and their newly appointed sporting director Jorg Schmadtke knock this acquisition out of the park.

Although the acquisition of Lavia was frequently characterized as chaotic and out of the ordinary for Liverpool, perhaps we now understand why.

After completing the acquisition of Caicedo, have the Reds used Lavia as a pawn in their scheme, or are they still interested in the 19-year-old?

The answers to all of these queries will emerge over the coming days, but Moises Caicedo joining Liverpool prior to Sunday’s match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge appears to be a given.
