Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he ‘did not expect’ the Red Devils to be able to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.

Multiple reports emerged overnight that Liverpool had agreed a £110m fee for the Ecuador international, while Chelsea were struggling to agree a fee for the midfielder.

Chelsea have been negotiating for Caicedo for weeks but Brighton recently turned down their biggest bid of £80m and now Liverpool appear to have rushed to sign the midfielder.

It seems that Liverpool are determined to bring Romeo Lavia to the club from Southampton, but the Caicedo deal has now become a priority.

When asked about the Caicedo deal, Klopp told reporters on Friday:
“The fees with the club have been agreed. We’ll see what that means. We are not a club with unlimited resources and we do not expect anything to happen this summer. Then it happened.

As for whether Caicedo will have a medical today, Klopp added:
“I can not tell. I do not know.”

Liverpool face Caicedo’s rivals Chelsea in the first game of the season on Sunday and Klopp is looking forward to the opening test of the weekend.

Klopp continued:
“We have been preparing for the Chelsea game for a while now. No distractions. I think they are two talented teams, we watched Chelsea on their tour and had a lot of good things. This is what we must prepare for. This is their first game and they will want to show off.
