Eddie Howe’s side enjoyed an impressive start to the season, beating Aston Villa 5-1 in the opener as City won 3-0 at Burnley. And it was City who kept their start at 100 per cent thanks to Julian Alvarez’s first-half goal.

Pep Guardiola’s side have a slightly different look to the one that won the treble last time out. Players like Ilkay Gündogan and Riyad Mahrez are making transfers, while Josko Gvardio and Mateo Kovacic have signed for the club.

Before the window closes at 11pm, there could be more home and away matches at the Etihad Stadium.

Below, we’ve rounded up the latest City news. Liverpool are considering a surprise move for City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to talkSPORT. The former Leeds United player has been sidelined at City but has previously said he intends to fight for his place at the club.

However, it is argued that the Reds have added the player to their target shortlist and are ready to test the midfielder’s resolve. This comes amid reports that City are willing to loan Phillips to extend his playing time. He has yet to play for the club this season, despite being in the squad for both Premier League games and also being named on the bench for the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup.

The Reds are actively trying to strengthen their midfield after missing out on replacements for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Wataru Endō joined the club from Stuttgart last week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona hope to finalize a deal for City defender Joao Cancelo later this week.

A breakthrough in the talks is expected soon. The player spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich but returned to England after the Bundesliga champions refused to keep the player on a permanent basis.

Cancelo has already agreed on a planned transfer with Barca and is said to be interested in joining the La Liga club. He joined City from Juventus in 2019. His move to Spain will be on loan before he gets an option to buy next summer.
