Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is a target for Liverpool, but the midfielder seemed reluctant to entertain the idea of leaving the champions earlier this summer

Kalvin Phillips has already stressed that he intends to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City this season amid renewed interest in his services from Liverpool.

Phillips, 27, only joined the Premier League champions from Leeds last summer but struggled for regular minutes during his maiden campaign at the Etihad.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still in the market for midfield reinforcements after Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both quit Anfield to join the Saudi Pro League exodus, and the German is known to be a big fan of Phillips, who had established himself as a key player for England before his blockbuster transfer to City.

After abandoning plans to pursue a deal for the defensive midfielder earlier this summer, talkSPORT have claimed that the Reds have rekindled their interest in Phillips ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

“I went to Manchester City to win trophies and we won trophies but I didn’t get to play as much as I would like. My intention is to stay there.

“We just won the treble so there’s no reason for me to leave but if I don’t play then obviously I’ll have to think about it. I can’t give him 12 months and say I don’t. competition, so I’m leaving.

“As you’ve seen with many City players, it can take some time to bond with you in the team.

Hopefully I’ll enjoy the rest of the season and work hard when I return.

I Also got injured but City helped me a lot to get in shape. “I’ll definitely talk to Pep.

I don’t know if it’s in the summer because everyone likes their free time and everyone wants to have their own space away from football so maybe I’ll let it go.” until back to pre-season but I’ll just talk to him and have a nice chat.”
