Leeds United are said to be interested in signing former Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Nottingham Forest.

According to TeamTalk, Los Blancos are considering recruiting Shelvey, who moved to the City Ground in January of this year.

Forestry manager Steve Cooper is happy to let Shelvey go before the end of the term with the 31-year-old already out of his plans.

According to reports, Shelvey and Cooper had a conflict late last season that caused him to miss the last seven games, as well as the first two of the current campaign.

Leeds want to sign Shelvey, who blew Howe with his technical prowess
Howe was appointed to Newcastle in November 2021 and took them from bottom of the Premier League to mid-table within months.

Shelvey started and commanded the team in some of those games, with Howe blown away by his technical prowess when he arrived.

He told Echo du Nord:
“I think we have very good players, players with very good technique.

To take an example – Jonjo Shelvey – I know how good Jonjo is, technically speaking against him and seeing him many times.

“But when you actually work with him, you realize he’s an incredible technician. He can make passes all over the pitch – long, short.

Leeds want to sign Shelvey who blew Howe away with his technical ability
Howe was appointed at Newcastle back in November 2021 and took them from the bottom of the Premier League to a comfortable mid-table finish in the matter of months.

Shelvey started and captained the side in several of those matches, with Howe having been blown away by his technical ability upon his arrival.

He told the Northern Echo:
“I think we’ve got some very good players, some very good technical players. Just picking one for example – Jonjo Shelvey – I knew how good Jonjo was on the ball, technically, having played against him and seen him many times.

“But when you really work with him, you realize he’s a great technician. He can make passes all over the pitch – long, short.

“He’s someone I’ve been looking at in terms of our philosophy and the way we want to play, he’s going to be very important to us as the season goes on.”

There’s no doubt that Shelvey possesses technical prowess beyond the championship, but there are bound to be question marks over what kind of baggage he’ll be carrying.

Disagreeing with a manager like Cooper in the span of just three months should set off alarm bells and there are certainly better options that Daniel Farke should consider replacing.
