Liverpool could strike a deal for a wonderkid whose future at his current club is unclear

Liverpool have had advanced talks with an exciting young midfielder – now apparently unwanted by their current manager.

The Reds will be hoping to end the transfer window with a win to add depth in midfield and complete the squad. Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo is the latest signing – and he made his debut against Bournemouth at the weekend.

But with squads still a little tight following an exodus that saw five veteran midfielders leave the club this summer, Liverpool are looking for a talented player who could be available.

The Mail recently reported that Liverpool had held “advanced talks” with Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, with The Athletic now admitting the Dutchman faces an “uncertain future” at Bayern.

Many at the Allianz Arena are impressed with the 21-year-old, according to the report, but manager Thomas Tuchel has reached a point where he will be happy to cash in on Gravenberch to fund a move to a genuine defensive midfielder. The club hierarchy, meanwhile, think Konrad Laimer could fill that role.

“While many of Gravenberch’s team-mates have praised his performances in training and club officials believe the former Ajax midfielder should be given more time, Tuchel has indicated he would approve of a transfer,”

the report read.
Liverpool could use the player as number 8 in their system ahead of Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai or Alexis Mac Allister. Gravenberch is comfortable at all stages of the game and would offer Klopp more depth than an automatic starter.

Gravenberch has made just three appearances for Bayern since leaving the Eredivisie and was left out of Louis van Gaal’s 2022 World Cup squad in December last year.
