Ryan Gravenberch and Kalvin Phillips have both been linked with a move to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his squad before the end of the transfer window

Liverpool face a race against time to get another midfielder through the goal before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Reds now have less than 10 days to do business and Jurgen Klopp is still keen to add a new midfielder to his ranks after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita also left at the start of the summer, while Arthur returned to Juventus.

This leaves Liverpool a little short in midfield, and despite the signing of Stuttgart’s Waturu Endo, Klopp still has his sights set on at least one. Ryan Gravenberch and Kalvin Phillips are said to be among those currently pursuing Liverpool, after Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia joined Chelsea. With that in mind here are the latest rumors coming out of Anfield.
Gravenberch upgrade

According to The Athletic, Ryan Gravenberch faces an uncertain future at Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga champions are considering selling the 21-year-old after he struggled for playing time during his debut season in Germany. Since he moved from Ajax last summer, he has only played three games.

Liverpool have long had an interest in Gravenberch and the Dutchman is said to be open to a departure from the Allianz Arena. Although a final decision has not yet been made, the club are believed to be retaining him in the hope that Thomas Tuchel integrates Gravenberch into the squad after paying £15m for his services.

But if Bayern can sell the midfielder, Tuchel will want to use the money for a specialist midfielder, despite him signing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig on a free transfer.

Liverpool pushed to sign Phillips

Simon Jordan believes Liverpool are yet to sign a midfielder as the Reds are still linked with a move to Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still looking for reinforcements in midfield after Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both left Anfield to join the Saudi Pro League exodus. Klopp is said to be a big fan of the former Leeds star Phillips, whom he has impressed against the Reds in the past.

After being asked about the planned transfer, Jordan told talkSPORT: “I’m not as big of a fan as some might be. But I still think Liverpool need (a midfielder).

“It will be interesting to see if there is resistance in Man City to doing business with Liverpool. If there is resistance to the idea of you strengthening a rival by giving them something they lack.

Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has hinted he could loan his club out again this season.

Pitaluga spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Macclesfield where he helped them win the Northern Premier League Division One West title. Promotion has lifted the Silkmen three steps out of the Football League and, despite missing out on an important part with a finger injury, Pitaluga is aiming for a possible ‘step up’.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “Being on loan to a Football League side is a possibility. We’ll see how that goes but it’s huge at my age to play. It would be a step up from last season but I’m more than ready.” because of this.

“Last season I played for Macclesfield but I could still train here at Liverpool and then go to games. I played a lot of games until unfortunately I got injured and winning minutes was really important.

“It was definitely more physical and I would say that was one of the main reasons I went there. That physical level doesn’t exist in the U21s, so it was a bit more of a challenge.”
