Defender Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur has been dubbed a “really impressive” acquisition by Danny Murphy.

The talkSPORT pundit was discussing the Spurs’ recent signing when the radio station’s interview with him took place.

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg this summer as part of a flurry of signings made by the club.

The Dutchman has displayed strong early-going play, building a strong defensive connection with Cristian Romero.

Tottenham hopes to repeat its clean sheet performance against Manchester United from last time out on Saturday.

Murphy praised Van de Ven, saying, “He looks a real talent, a really good signing.”

Later on, he added: “He’s young, so he’s going to make some mistakes along the way; I don’t think center backs reach their peak performance until after that.

“But yes, he appears to be a great signing. Wow, that’s impressive.

He is at ease with the ball, as one would anticipate. He has a strong presence and is adept in the air, but despite his size, he moves surprisingly quickly. He can move about, after all.”

This summer, Tottenham definitely needed to reinforce their defense. We noticed lapses in defense even during the preseason, which almost qualified as typical.

That ought not to be the case for a group like the Spurs. So it’s encouraging to see Van de Ven arrive. He and Romero seem like they’ll make a fantastic team.

In the closing hours of the transfer window, hopefully, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will welcome even more arrivals.
