Giovani Lo Celso will play for Tottenham against Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, according to head coach Ange Postecoglou, but a Tanguy Ndombele comeback seems unlikely.

Lo Celso and Ndombele both made significant summer 2019 transfers to Spurs, but they have spent the majority of the last four years on loan.

Everyone had a fresh start with Postecoglou’s appointment in June, but Ndombele is in a different situation. On Saturday, Lo Celso made his first competitive Tottenham appearance in 18 months coming off the bench at Bournemouth.

Ndombele is one of six first-team players who have not been selected for any of the Australian’s three matchday squads, and they could all depart the club before the end of the season.

Gio has had a little bad luck. He did well for us when he came on. Postecoglou remarked, “I thought all the substitutes did incredibly well just to assist us manage the game.

He will play in the game on Tuesday night. For want of a better phrase, it will be a fun week. We undoubtedly have a lot going on.

“I’m only focusing on the task at hand. If not instructed otherwise, I’ll work with the team I have and concentrate on Tuesday night.

Along with Hugo Lloris, Ndombele is one of several players who have yet to play this year, including Djed Spence, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, and Sergio Reguilon, who was a former captain of the Spurs.
