Darwin Nunez’s second goal against Newcastle United on Sunday was the 42nd time Liverpool have scored in the 90th minute or later in the Premier League.
Nunez was sent off for Virgil van Dijk’s red card in St. From the bench at James Park, the Reds were down 10 men.

Nunez hit a pair of clinical goals past Nick Pope in the closing stages to make it a sensational 2-1. benefit
The turnaround, which ended with 93 on the clock, added to a streak of last-minute Premier League winners that no other team can match.
Here we take a closer look at the details of this remarkable record…

The Reds’ first last-minute interventions in the Premier League era came against the team they benefited from the most: Everton.

That was in March 1993 and thanks to Ronny Rosenthal firing home in front of the Kop to secure a 1-0 win for Graeme Souness’s side. Gary McAllister then broke the Blues with an unforgettable free-kick at Goodison Park in April 2001.

The moment was emulated by Dirk Kuyt from the penalty spot six years later and by Sadio Mane just before Christmas 2016.

The fifth and most recent of Liverpool’s last-minute Premier League winners against Everton was Divock Origi’s 96 at Anfield in 2018.
After the strike of Nunez in St. At James’ Park, Newcastle are the second most common side to suffer a late incident from the Reds. The deciders were, of course,

Stan Collymore and Robbie Fowler in 1996 and 1997 when Roy Evans’ side won the back-to-back 4-3 at Anfield.

And Fabio Carvalho scored the home goal eight minutes into added time when the Magpies visited L4 a year ago.
In addition to Aston Villa,

Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool also had three such incidents and two against Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Fulham, Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Individually, it probably comes as no surprise to learn that Steven Gerrard has scored more last-minute Premier League winners for the club than any other player.

The midfielder scored four goals during his 17-year spell, the first being a decisive solo effort against Charlton Athletic at Anfield in 2003.

He also did it away at Derby County (2007) and at home to Middlesbrough (2008), before his last such effort for the Reds was a perfect penalty at Fulham in 2014.
The man with the second most is Mane, who has done it three times

. A home decider against Palace and an iconic winner during Villa’s 2019-2020 Championship campaign followed the aforementioned Merseyside derby moment.

Fernando Torres shared the bronze after scoring two last-minute winners for Liverpool.
Of all 42 incidents, 16 occurred during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure, which is 38 percent.

The first game under the German is particularly high in drama: the 5-4 scoreline at Norwich City in January 2016, which was ultimately decided by Adam Lallana’s left boot.

Behind Klopp on that list is Rafael Benitez, who oversaw nine last-minute league winners during his six spells with the Reds, including Neil Mellor’s 2004 screamer against Arsenal and Yossi Benayoun’s 2009 strike at Craven Cottage.
Evans and Gerard Houllier meanwhile accounted for five.

Apart from three own goals, 30 different Liverpool players have scored last-minute winners in the Premier League – and only one goalkeeper is among them.

We may never see Alisson Becker’s 95th minute header to beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at the Hawthorns in May 2021 again.
