On the day of the transfer deadline, Liverpool has more work to do than most other Premier League teams, including Manchester United.

As Ryan Gravenberch’s transfer gets closer to being official and decisions about Bobby Clark and Tyler Morton’s loan status are made, Liverpool will only be concentrating on itself today.

In a perfect scenario, Jürgen Klopp would be able to buy another center-back and see Gravenberch’s transfer approved, but Liverpool may have left it too late in the summer for that to be feasible. The ‘ideal’ option hasn’t been there since Levi Colwill renewed his contract with Chelsea, but it relies solely on who is available.

Gravenberch alone, along with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru End, would constitute an efficient midfield rebuild for Liverpool; the attack and goalkeeping department would still look very strong, leaving only a gap at the back, which might be acceptable with some luck on the injury front.

But what about the rest of the Premier League? Arsenal could likely use another defender because to the long-term injury sustained by summer signing Jurrin Timber, while Manchester United is reportedly interested in a few players.

Erik ten Hag has set his sights on Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilón, while Chelsea might use another forward and Manchester City needs to finalize the acquisition of Matheus Nunes. Ansu Fati from Barcelona, meantime, is anticipated to be introduced in Brighton.

It would be ideal, in terms of what Liverpool supporters may want for, if Manchester United could fail to accomplish at least one of their goals. Amrabat won’t affect the game in terms of quality, but he would add another body at a spot where Ten Hag’s side appears to be lacking.

Finding cover for Timber while he is out would be ideal but is not absolutely necessary if Liverpool is to attempt to challenge for the Premier League title. Mikel Arteta’s signing of Declan Rice could make a big difference but Kai Havertz feels like an expensive purchase.
